Only the joint forces of science and law enforcement can help when a young woman is found brutally murdered with her identity erased.

Massachusetts State Police Trooper Leigh Abbott and forensic anthropologist Matt Lowell come together to solve their second case when the remains of a young woman are found, thrown away like garbage at a local landfill. But what seems straightforward becomes something much more sinister when the victim’s bone damage reveals a shocking history of abuse. It will take reliving the horrors of Matt’s military background, all the team’s forensic skills, and Leigh’s intuition combined for them to catch the killer and give the victim the justice she deserves.

No One Sees Me 'Til I Fall Abbott and Lowell Forensic Mysteries Book 2 eBook Jen J Danna Ann Vanderlaan

No One Sees Me `Til I Fall, second installment of the Abbott and Lowell Forensic Mysteries series, Kindle Format Version V8 by Jen J. Danna with Ann Vanderlaan is a story that could have been taken from a daily news report involving a family of Afghanistan immigrants in Massachusetts.
The story begins as a dark figure surreptitiously deposits a black bag in a municipal landfill in an area that is scheduled to be ploughed under the next day which will allow complete disintegration of the contained body. An anonymous call brings Massachusetts State Trooper Leigh Abbott to the site in time to retrieve it and from there to request help from Boston University forensic anthropologist Dr. Matthew Lowell to solve the case. As the tale unfolds we find that the victim was a lovely teen aged girl who had been horribly mutilated to satisfy the archaic beliefs and laws of an antiquated male dominated society simply because she was embracing the mores of her newly acquired home country.
Other reviewers have expressed fervent empathy for the victim and an intense support because the authors have brought this subject forward. I concur completely and heartily embrace the sentiments repeatedly expressed. My concerns are strictly with the manner in which the story has been presented. According to the front material, the authors respectively are "part of a dynamic research group at a cutting edge Canadian university" and "a retired research scientist". It is because of these credentials that I find myself disappointed. The forensic details presented are correct, as would be expected. However, the characters are not `fleshed out', their intercourse seems to be forced, the plot activity appears somehow contrived, and each chapter, for some indefinable reason, is initiated by a word followed by its definition. In other words, I am disappointed that authors with the credits listed have not provided a more forceful presentation of this most disastrous complication of a clash between the mores of different cultures. A minor annoyance is lack of information that the book is of novella length with the last twenty-seven per cent devoted to an introduction to the authors' next product.
So, to conclude: in this reader's opinion, although dealing with a most timely subject, and obviously enjoyed by many, the presentation does not allow inclusion of this book as a `good mystery' when compared with so many that have been well researched and well written. No One Sees Me 'Til I Fall Abbott and Lowell Forensic Mysteries Book 2 eBook Jen J Danna Ann Vanderlaan Reviews

I liked this book, apparently this was the second book in a series? Or it was alluded to? Either way, the author did a good job in keeping my interest. As much as I hate to think that’s how a civilization would treat women, it’s probably more than true. How sad, I’m sure our creator did not intend for “Man” to be superior over women, they are a help mate, not something to be treated of lesser value.
Leigh and Matt team up again when police revive a tip that a body is in the local landfill dump. They need the archeological team to discover how the Vic I'm lived and died. Fun chemistry between Leigh and Matt.
I liked the overall story line. For me, it could have been fleshed out more. The entire book seemed too short and too focused. The topic is a tough topic and I had the feeling it was dealt with much too "easily and quickly" - kind of like, just another American crime story. The real story line holds so much more promise than what this book presents. I constantly had the impression I was just the "stupid" reader who needed explaining to. The intro to each chapter were totally unnecessary for me. I'm giving this book a higher rating because the topic is worth getting out there and being discussed.
This novella is the second installment of the Abbott and Lowell Forensic Mysteries and is every bit as good as “Dead, Without a Stone To Tell It”, which I loved.
This novella concerns a badly decomposed body in a garbage bag found in a garbage dump after an anonymous phone tip. Lt. Abbott brings Dr. Lowell and his team of grad students in on the case, although we don’t see much of the students this time probably because of the length of the story. Matt Lowell detects small but very significant findings in the skull that turns the case on an unexpected course with details that each finds difficult to deal with.
No One Sees Me ‘Til I Fall is an excellent read and I highly recommend it.
This is a new author for me and a new experience-a complex, satisfyingly interesting mystery in a novella form. Although the good guys clearly have a history together, this story stands alone well and I didn't feel as though I had to have read the other book to understand. Not only does the story deal with solving a brutal murder using detective work and forensic science, but it also touches on complex cultural and societal issues. The preview of the next book looks great as well and I am definitely going to go and find the first full length novel. There is no sex or profanity, but there is violence in this story.

Heat factor mild.
Having just finished `Dead, Without a Stone to Tell It', the debut novel for writing team Danna and Vanderlaan, I was impatient to read their next just-published work, `No One Sees Me 'Til I Fall' and I downloaded it almost immediately. Leigh Abbott and Matt Lowell are already firmly entrenched in my consciousness as characters with depth and appeal, and I was eager to see where these two clever authors would go with them next.

I was catapulted back into their world from the first page; a body is dumped at a land fill, discarded with as little thought as were the piles of garbage that surround it. Abbott, Leigh and their team of grad student techs work together to identify the victim and through that collaboration discover a culture of cruelty that can be difficult for us to comprehend. A culture where woman have little value and horrendous practices against them are accepted. In giving the victim back her identity and uncovering the perpetrator of this debasing crime, they give her back her dignity and humanity. The journey there is fast paced and packed with drama and tension.

Published as a novella, this story reads like a full length novel and has just as much impact. It is thoughtfully crafted and rich with detail, an unexpected and satisfying accomplishment in a work of this length. You can read this as a stand alone, but don't stop there. Personally, I am champing at the bit to read the next full length instalment!
